Shearson Stake May Be Sold

The American Express Company may be trying to sell shares of its Shearson Lehman Brothers securities unit again. Shearson officials drew up a plan for American Express to shed a majority interest in the nation's No. 2 brokerage firm in a public stock sale, The Wall Street Journal said yesterday. The plan may be presented to American Express's board next month.

REEBOK PLANS $135 MILLION REORGANIZING CHARGE

Reebok International Ltd. said yesterday that it planned to take an after-tax charge of about $135 million in the fourth quarter to revamp its operations. The four-part program includes selling the company's Boston Whaler and Ellesse U.S.A. divisions. Reebok will also take a charge to write down the value of its Avia footwear subsidiary, which it purchased in April 1987 for about $180 million.

Alliant's Chief Quits

The Alliant Computer Systems Corporation said Craig J. Mundie, one of the company's three founders, had resigned as president and chief executive, effective immediately. Mr. Mundie had accepted the position of general manager, advanced consumer technologies, at the Microsoft Corporation, Alliant said. He will stay on Alliant's four-member board to help oversee the liquidation of the 10-year-old company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last May. The company named Michael J. Boudreau, 39, as president, treasurer, and secretary. Mr. Boudreau had been corporate controller; that post will not be filled.

Wheat Prices Slip on Worry About Payments by Russia

Wheat futures slipped to a six-week low yesterday as worries increased about Russia's inability to make payments on United States loans, analysts said. Russia, which has been suspended from United States credit programs since Nov. 30, accounted for about 11 percent of all United States wheat exports, according to Allendale Inc., a brokerage firm in Crystal Lake, Ill. The Agriculture Department continues to characterize Russia's situation as temporary.

CLOROX CO., Oakland, Calif., said it had purchased the household cleaning products business of Dow Brands Inc. in Argentina. The purchase price was not disclosed. EKCO GROUP INC., Nashua, N.H., has signed a letter of intent to acquire Kellogg Brush Manufacturing Co., Easthampton, Mass. and its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Wright-Bernet, Inc. and Cleaning Specialty Co., for $33.9 million.
