The Democrat has news from the Red River to the 5th inst. PORTER was at Alexandria with his iron-clads. A large force was engaged in damming the river at Alexandria, so as to give sufficient depth of water at the Falls for the gunboats to pass over. It would take two weeks to raise the water.
