THE U.N. ROLE IN THE PUBLICATION OF NEWSPAPER SUPPLEMENTS
Date: 04 June 1981
To the Editor: I would like to correct a number of inaccuracies in the article by Bernard Nossiter titled ''U.N. Gave $432,000 to the Foreign Press to Publish Its Views'' (May 28). v. e did not, as the article says, pay ''for supplements promoting the organization's view on aid to the third world.'' What we did was administer a trust fund set up specifically to encourage the international exchange of opinions on the continuing North-South dialogue on the world economy and its development.

The Reagan Administration's attempts to improve relations with Argentina come when there are few tangible benefits for the United States. The intangible ones are difficult to measure. The Administration has asked Congress to lift an arms embargo imposed more than two years ago because of Argentina's human rights policies and has sent a number of generals and admirals on visits here. James L. Buckley, the Under Secretary of State for Security Assistance, Science and Technology, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the embargo frustrates United States strategic interests, particularly in the South Atlantic.

NUCLEAR NEWS IN MOSCOW
Date: 04 June 1981
By Anthony Lewis

A noted American physicist, Victor F. Weisskopf of M.I.T., has just had an unusual experience with the Soviet system. It could suggest an opening for arms control negotiations of the kind that President Reagan has repeatedly said he wants: talks looking to actual reductions in nuclear weaponry. Professor Weisskopf had a telephone call last March from a Soviet Embassy official in Washington, asking whether he would answer four questions about the arms race for a Soviet survey of world scientific opinion. He asked to have the questions in writing, and he sent written answers - specifying that they should be printed in full.

International Unity against Libyan interventionism was proposed by the Reagan Administration, which said it would support all African countries that want to resist such activities. A high State Department official said that Libya was training guerrillas and terrorists from many countries. (Page A1, Column 4.) The sale of advanced jets to Venezuela will soon be approved by President Reagan, according to Administration officials. The step would reverse longstanding American policy against the introduction of sophisticated arms in Latin America. The officials said that the decision to sell a limited number of F-16 fighters had been endorsed by senior officials at both the State and Defense Departments. (A1:5.)

International France's minimum wage was raised by 10 percent and pension benefits were increased sharply by the new Socialist Government, which said that banks, oil companies and the rich would face higher taxes next year to help finance the programs. In their first major policy announcements, the Socialists also said they were abolishing some controversial authoritarian security practices that had been criticized by non-Gaullists. (Page A1, Columns 1-2.) Francois Mitterrand believes that the nations of the world are not making progress toward military or economy security, but he is philosophical about it. In his first interview since his election as President of France, he said that he favored a balance of power with Soviet forces in Europe and that he planned to nationalize some French industries. RICHARD HARRIS BRINGING 'CAMELOT' TO BROADWAY
Date: 03 June 1981
By John Corry
John Corry
Richard Harris will make his debut on Broadway next October in ''Camelot.'' Mr. Harris went on stage in ''Camelot'' in Los Angeles in April, replacing Richard Burton, an old friend, who underwent surgery for a degenerative disease of the spine in March. ''Camelot,'' which would have ended its run with Mr. Burton next week, has had, in effect, a resuscitation. ''Before Burton got sick we talked to him about extending, but he never felt well enough to say yes,'' Don Gregory, one of the producers, said. ''No one knew how ill he really was then. We thought about closing the show when we learned how very, very serious it was, but then we got Richard Harris. Now everyone wants to see him.''
